Fairy tale princess – lighting test

March 31, 2010

Another computer inking, shading, lighting, and color test of the fairy tale princess. The background was just a quick sketch for mood. The first thumbnail is the shadows alone, the second shows the added highlights and blue light from one side, and the third is to show detail. I wanted to post this yesterday, but the shading took longer than expected. Sorry!

Here’s the original pencil sketch.

      *blush* Thank you!
Well, as a fairy tale princess, she just has to be “the fairest in the land”, right? 😉

I know it’s odd cos I’ve commented more than once but my sis gave me an idea, but i just didn’t have the courage to ask. i thought you’d be busy but she really wants me to ask because she thinks you’ll be really good at it (and i agree with her). well here goes…
I’ve been writing this book for a few months now. i can draw the mythical creatures fine- just not the main character. When my sister stumbled across your sight she read all the comments about how much you loved hair and told me to ask you whether you would possibly be interested in illustrating my character for me. Her hair isn’t as long a Rapunzel but it’s very long (the tips of her hair just brush the floor). She’s not a fairy-tale princess, she’s more of a Goddess/hero-that-saves-the-world. Because she’s a Goddess she supposed to be beautiful, but when it comes to facial features i completely and utterly suck! i don’t really mind if you’re not interested cos not many people are.i was just kinda hoping 🙂 feel free to visit my books facebook page (its terrible 🙂 ) http://www.facebook.com/pages/Legend-of-the-Cornella-trilogy/139175259506329
(not sure if the link works 😛 )

It’s not odd that you commented more than once; it’s great, thanks! 😉

When I was young and learning to draw, I was terrible at people; so I used to trace pictures I liked, often the same picture over and over, until I got the lines and shapes and proportions right. It’s fine to trace something for practice. You’ll find your own style quickly and be able to create your own, new pictures.

I checked your art out; looking good, keep up the good work! Your style actually reminds me of some of my earlier sketches.
