200th Anniversary of Grimms’ Rapunzel

December 20, 2012

concept1201

To mark the 200th anniversary of the fairy tales of the Grimm brothers, published as “Children’s and Household Tales” in 1812, I thought I’d post a distinctly Rapunzel-inspired sketch, since – out of all their tales – Rapunzel’s hair has clearly influenced my art the most.

I’m not quite sure how this image popped into my head, but I’ve never seen Rapunzel drawn at this angle, and I quite like the basic idea. I’ll have to do a full color version of her unfurling her hair one of these days.
